Ice Skating

The day after Christmas we were up and ready to do a fun activity - ice skating! It has been on our winter to do list and we were surprised to find an ice skating rink about 5 mins from our house. Yet another reason I love living in the city.

But before we made it to the rink we stopped off at Target for some after Christmas shopping. We desperately needed a new tree and some decorations for the mantle and outside the house.

Tree, lights, garland, and a new bulbs

Lighted gift boxes for the porch

Ornaments for where the hanging baskets used to be

Trees for either side of the mantle
I am actually excited for next year to decorate. I also got some new wrapping paper and bows!

Then it was off to the rink to skate!
She did great!
We were a little nervous when we realized that I was the most experienced skater....at two previous occasions! Mike had been once and all the kids this was their first time....we may have been a little over our heads!
She spent a lot of time hugging the wall!

I was impressed at how well he could walk in the skates....but ice was a whole other issue!

It may be a while before we go ice skating again...It turns out I was the only Oliver who didn't fall and the only Oliver who didn't leave with a souvenir - an injury!

Mike fell while holding onto Owen...Owen smacked his cheek against Mike's head and Mike landed on his elbow! This was about 15 mins into our session!

Sad face and puffy cheek

Pic doesn't quite show it but his elbow was really swollen!

Savannah got two nasty blisters

Kate got a couple scrapes from falling and her skates
After 2 hours all three kids were fussy and wanted to go home! Mike and I were worn out and ready for some more low key entertainment! But I am glad we did it once!

Gifts!

Christmas Morning came and there were a lot of gifts to be opened!

Still a little groggy

Eating a mini cupcake for breakfast....cuz that is how we roll!

A much anticipated gift...

Still serious

He was really into opening presents this year

Wii game! She got two new ones this year

Savannah got a lot of crafts

Owen had a Jake and the Neverland Pirate Christmas!

Some of the faces were priceless!

Jewelry Holder!

Shave kit

Make Up Kits

Savannah is asking if she can scream really loud!

She got one of these for Christmas last year but it got misplaced in the move...she was devastated! But she was thrilled to get a replacement 6 months later :)

They made out as usual and we had a full 4 hours of silence afterwards! It was a Merry Christmas for us all! And for the first time in a lot of years Mike and I got several gifts, I just didn't get pictures of them! :)

Only Child Owen Part 2

By Sunday (day 3 without his sisters) Owen was really getting comfortable being the only child in the house.

I let him vacuum the carpet which he thought was so fun!

After church we went out to a nice hibachi lunch!

He is getting a lot of attention even while running errands

Lollipop!

He even talked Mike and I into playing board games with him :)

Overall I really enjoyed having a few days with just one child and I think Owen really enjoyed himself but we are really excited about having our girls back!!!

Only Child Owen Part 1

The second day that the girls were off school they were set to fly out to FL to get Kate's palate expander removed and then head up with my Mom and John to see my sister in SC. So for about 4 days, Owen was an only child! I wanted to make sure we he enjoyed his time without the girls so I had some fun planned.

First we dropped off the girls -

They were so excited!

As soon as they got on the plane, he was miserable! He didn't want his girls to leave!

Watching them go

I guess the drive home was boring without the girls because he fell asleep pretty fast!

the new norm!
Friday I promised to bake cookies with Owen and take him to Explorium!

Pretty sure this is the first time I baked cookies with any of my kids

And when I say bake, what I really mean is I rolled out pre-made dough and let him use a few cutters

There they are! This will be a must for next year with all the kids

Then we were off to Explorium...and they had a new exhibit....a bank vault and counter!

dropping all the cash!
