Sleepy Boy

Lately Owen has been having a bit of trouble with his afternoon naps. Some days he sleeps and some days he doesn't...there is really no rhyme or reason to it. And it really isn't a problem until around 4 or 5 o clock when he starts to fall asleep anywhere...

This day he was snuggled up with me watching a show while I paid bills on the computer and before I knew it, he was snoring!

What a sweet face!

At his age Savannah was completely over her naps and as much as I would love for him to simply give them up, he obviously still needs them.

Pumpkin Carving

This year I almost forgot about pumpkin carving! We did the orchard early and then painted pumpkins at Carrie's house so it nearly got away from me. But Friday while the girls were at school I went out and bought a pumpkin and a carving kit. The nice thing was that it was so close to Halloween that they were already marked down!

The kids were pleasantly surprised and were eager to get carving!

I made them wait until Saturday afternoon...

We had a great time carving our pumpkin this year and although I am pretty sure we could have gotten away without carving one, I am really glad we did :)

Friday Night Date!

Friday night was an exciting night around here! It was date night!

When we first moved to Lexington we really didn't think about date nights because we were so busy. And then Aunt Susan came and surprised us with a date night which was awesome. And then it was three LONG months before Mike and I were able to venture out alone! We found that our local children's museum Explorium has a monthly parent's night out so in September we signed up! And the kids loved it....and so did we! So it rolled around again last night and we felt like we had hit the lottery!

I don't care how much they bicker....they love each other!

I think my favorite thing about date night is that the kids get to get out and do something different too! We haven't been to Explorium since school started so they were excited to play, there are other kids there to play with, and they came home with a bunch of Halloween crafts!

Mike and I went out to dinner and then did a little shopping. It was so nice to spend some uninterrupted time with him and we got a lot done within our time frame. One of the things I needed to get was gloves for the kids!

They were super happy about this purchase :)

Home Improvements

Now that we've been in our house almost 5 months (seriously can't believe its been that long!) Mike and I decided that we were ready to invest a little more time and energy into decorating the house. The white walls were really nice at first after so many years of color in our Florida house but now they are getting to be a little depressing and one thing is for sure - we aren't painting!

So here are a few little touches we've made since the last time I have posted pics of the house.

I redid the mantle back in July but haven't posted pics

I added these around the mirror just to give some accent also in July and I think I have spent every day since then trying to figure out if I like them....still not sure.

We got this new table for the hallway...it's super cute

New art for the dining room....although it still looks pretty bare

Wall stuff for the master bedroom...I still need to get candles for my sconces

If feels like we spent a lot of time and thought into getting these little things done and it really isn't a huge difference but we are getting there. This house far and away suits our family better than our old house but it is going to take some time to achieve that lived in feel.

After two weekends out of town and a lot of running around, it feels really good to just laze around our house!

South Carolina Makes Us Tired!

Getaway to South Carolina

This past week the girls were off school for fall break and we decided to take the opportunity to go and see the Carmody family in South Carolina. Not only were we planning a fun trip to Sky Top Orchard, but baby Caroline is about to turn 1 and I haven't seen her since she was 1 month old! It was definitely time!

We went to our favorite Japanese restaurant! Yum Yum!

Later that evening, we had cupcakes to celebrate my birthday...more yum!

The next morning we headed out to North Carolina to go to the orchard and pick some apples.

What happens when Mama gets busy and goes away for the weekend

So this past week I worked on Thursday, went with Savannah's class on a field trip on Friday, attended her school carnival Friday evening, and then we went away for the weekend! This is what I had waiting for me on Monday :)

 





Uggghhhh....it was really fun getting to do all the activities last week but oh the laundry is a bummer! I sat and folded this pile for over an hour!

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

On Sunday after going to the zoo we went into the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and did a little hiking before heading back home after lunch. The weather was a good 10 degrees cooler than Saturday and it was perfect!
