Kate's Diabetes Update

Friday afternoon I took Kaitlyn to see her endocrinologist for a 3 month follow up. I was really hoping that we'd be in and out of there with no change to her treatment. It was definitely not what I got!
Kaitlyn's A1C level went up which basically tells us that her sugars are up and her sugar logs which I have sent in weekly are not showing steady improvement despite repeatedly increasing doses of her medication. The biggest issue with Kate is that she has MODY which isn't classic Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. Hers is a genetic type that doesn't have a clear treatment, especially in children.

So her doctor wants her to start on insulin injections. Yuck! The good news is that it is a 24 hour insulin so it is one injection per day and she only has to test her blood sugar once more per day than she is doing now. So all in all it is only two more pokes than we are doing now :) But I hate it for my girl!
