Mr. Social

Owen has quite the flourishing social life these days. Pre-School has been really good for Owen and since I work there, I get to meet all the parents which is nice! Same with church since Mike and I teach his Sunday school class once a month. So lately he has been invited to a lot of birthday parties and play dates!

Here are a few of the most recent ones!

Owen was invited to a girl from church's party at the Little Gym! So fun!!

What was really funny is that her name is Kelsey but he kept calling her Chelsea!! He's a boy...not into details!
The following week we had another birthday party at Chick-fil-A.

This time around the birthday girl is in his pre-school class, so at least he knew her name!
And then a play date at Explorium with Riley .

Owen definitely has the most friends out of any of us here in Kentucky! He's my little Mr. Social :)

Seven Years Old

Savannah is seven years old! It's just weird! She came to me as this tiny little 7 day old newborn and has just never left! It is crazy that seven years have gone by. I can't stand how quickly my children are growing up!

She started as my little cutie pie! I just couldn't get enough of her!

But pretty soon, she was driving me crazy!

Tantrums!

I quit my job so I could be home with her more!

And not long after I remember telling Mike that I needed her to go back to day care! :) And I wasn't kidding!

But after a while, we figured out how to get along and I really started to enjoy her!

She makes everyday challenging and thrilling! She's unbelievable, unpredictable, unstable, and absolutely the child that you cannot leave alone for any period of time. The nightmares I have about my children being hurt or lost are ALWAYS about her. She keeps me on my toes and I would not have it any other way! She takes parenting to a whole other level and I adore her for it! She makes my heart happy....

She is independent, confident, curious, and fearless!

She is passionate and really really funny! She loves school and has made us so proud of her love of learning!

I will say to those of you who have your own "Savannah's" it does get better! She has mellowed out a lot and is learning the art of self control, although her fiery spirit will always be there! She's becoming more compassionate and is attempting to be more obedient. I see her trying and being remorseful when she errs and that gives me so much hope!

We love you so much Savannah Grace! I cannot wait to see what the next seven years of your life look like and how you are going to surprise and challenge me as your mother! Even though I have probably said otherwise, I have loved every minute of being your Mama :) Happy Birthday to my "little" girl!

Why am I Obsessed with Sleeping Owen?

I am not really sure why, but I seem to be obsessed with looking at my sleeping boy! Every time I scroll through my phone pictures I find a lot of pictures of Owen sleeping.

Like these -

Is it because he falls asleep just about anywhere?

In any position...

Or is it those amazing eyelashes?

He is just so stinking cute! I can't help myself. :) Honestly, I think it is because this kid is a moving, talking, question asking, mostly whining machine who seems to never rest, so when he is still and silent.....it's breathtaking! Sleep on Owen!

First Camping Experience!

So we finally decided that after years of Mike begging and the winter finally easing that it was time for our first family camping experience. Mike is very much into family activities....he insists on game nights, bike rides, eating at the table, and now that we have a tent and the children are old enough, camping! And while I love that he cares about these things....sometimes I wish he was a little less insistent. :) I am not as big on this whole camping thing but I decided to make an effort!

But I was still kind of dreading it!

I will say this, camping is a lot of work! You not only have to pack your shelter, but also your food, towels, and entertainment! The car was packed!

We drove to O'Bannon Woods State Park in Indiana because I thought going north would be cooler since it was getting warmer in May! Of course I booked it a few weeks earlier when the weather was in the 80's

Setting up our tent site!
So the weekend weather was high of 60 low of 40 so we brought a lot of blankets but I was just not prepared for how cold it was actually going to be! We had a fire for a while, ate dinner, made s'mores, but when we went to bed it got really cold. The kids had sleeping bags and fell asleep pretty quick but I was so cold I couldn't sleep! I tried to suck it up and deal but about 1:30 am Owen woke up coughing and crying that he was cold. So we ditched the tent and found a hotel about 20 mins away! I have never appreciated a roof over my head and heating so much as I did that evening!

The next morning, we went back to the tent, got ready for the day and headed out to Squire Boone Caverns!

Triple Threat!

Inside the cave

They had a great little souvenir shop! Everything was really inexpensive! Like these pop guns that were one dollar!

Savannah was more interested in the candy selection

Owen got a little pirate play set for 93 cents! He loved his little eye patch

I saw this and couldn't resist! Love all that yellow!!!

Back at our tent site we were kind of sad that we weren't going to be able to stay the night again like we had planned but it just wasn't realistic to even try to make it again. The temps were supposed to even get lower that night. So we basically had to pack it all back up and head home!

Girls exploring together!

We strategically placed our tent site near the restrooms and playground so the kids spent some time playing with other kids!

The drive home was quiet and peaceful because we were all exhausted!

Rock candy!

Once we got home, Mike informed me that everything had to be washed, cleaned, unpacked, etc and I almost screamed!!! Seven loads of laundry, airing out the tent and then refolding it, cleaning all the pots, and utensils and coolers about did me in! I don't know why anyone would want to camp! But it was fun at times so I think we will try it again maybe in July....we'll see!

Oh, and to add insult to injury, we found a tick on Savannah a couple days later.....eeewwww!!! :)

Arts and Humanities Night

Savannah's school had an arts and humanities night last week and she was so excited to go that saying no wasn't an option! Even after a busy day and a new recipe that didn't turn out as planned, she still insisted that we all go! And it started at 5:30 when Kate doesn't get off the bus until about 4:45....she STILL insisted! Have you met Savannah Grace?

But it was fun!

Art Attack...they had stations for the kids to do different art projects

Savannah also insisted that we check out the school garden! It was really cool and Savannah knew a lot about the plants.
Here she is telling a random lady about a particular plant!

I am wondering if all KY schools have gardens....FL certainly didn't!

Owen got in on the watering action

Pretty soon it was time for the grade level performances....K and 1st graders getting ready!

They did the cutest dance/rhythmic thing!
I am glad we made it after all! :)

Flowers!!!

This year for my Mother's Day all I really wanted was to plant flowers in our flower beds. So we made it a family affair! Everybody pitched in and did a great job :)

Hanging baskets!

We had beautiful weather this weekend and the kids were eager to help! It was a great weekend and the flowers really make the house look nice!
