For the past two weeks Kaitlyn's class has been working on preparing speeches for a Speech Competition held at her school each year. It is only for 4th and 5th graders. Kate decided to write her speech on being an adopted child. It talked about how her adoption day was a memorable and exciting day for her and about how glad she is to be in a family and have an adopted sister. Seriously the first time I heard it, I nearly cried! It was so sweet. I think the best part about it was the fact that Kate is just not an overly lovey or emotional child so to hear her feelings on the matter was so special and touching.
And she got 2nd place in her class!!! Go Kate :)

So not only did that mean she rocked, but she also got to move on to the school wide competition!!! She gave her speech with the top 20 students in the 4th and 5th grades. And she had to do it on the stage, in the cafeteria, with a larger audience!!! Thankfully Mike was able to go a see her speak.
She did a great job!! And even though she didn't win a ribbon in this round, several teachers came up to me in the car line in the days after to compliment about how good she did and how sweet her speech was. A couple of them admitted to tearing up when they heard it! Maybe she has a future in public speaking :)
You go, Kate! What a wonderful topic to share with other children, and to advance to the next level, too! AWESOME :)
