The benefit of being a diabetic...

I think that Kate and I would both agree that there aren't many benefits of being a diabetic...but yesterday at school Kate got her first taste of one...

When she went up to the nurse to take her blood sugar before lunch the nurse noticed that her sugar was a little higher than normal. She then tested her ketones which were fine and sent her on to lunch. She told Kate and Kate's teacher that if she didn't feel good just to let her know. So apparently after lunch Kate got a headache and let her teacher know. The nurse rushed down to her classroom and tested her blood sugar right there in the room. Of course after she's eaten, it's going to be higher and then Kate's head felt a little warm and when the nurse asked if Kate felt any pain Kaitlyn told her that her legs hurt! The nurse promptly summoned a wheelchair and off they went to the clinic!

Now in the nurse's defensive Kate did have a fever and the flu seems to be going around the school this week....but

does she look sick to you?!?!?!?

So Kaitlyn got a free day off school today! And she spent her time playing the Wii without the presence of her pesky brother and sister!!! :) As much as I enjoy my two mornings a week alone, I am happy that she got to play hooky from school! Kate works so hard at school and her grades are fabulous!!! Even 5th graders need a day off here and there.
